Consultation
All appointments include a thorough Examination of your Ears using a Otoscope and Digital Video Otoscope.
The Examination will identify which method of treatment will be best suited to your ears.
If the Examination findings show that you do not need treatment, you will only be charged a Consultation Fee.
-
Irrigation
Irrigation uses warm water directed into the ear canal at a low pressure to gently flush out excessive ear wax.
Irrigation is an ideal treatment method for large quanities of ear wax.
It’s normal to experience some mild and temporary side effects after this treatment, which may include; mild dizziness, tinnitus, slight discomfort and temporarily reduced hearing. This is completely normal and these symptoms typically resolve within 24 hours.
-
Microsuction
Microsuction is a safe and effective method that uses gentle suction to remove ear wax and debris from the ear canals.
Microsuction is an ideal treatment method for patients with an ear infection, perforated ear drums or grommets.
It’s normal to experience some mild and temporary symptoms immediately afterwards. These may include; mild dizziness, slight discomfort and temporarily reduced hearing. These effects should subside quickly.

Manual Removal
Manual Removal, otherwise known as Debridement, consists of using a specialised sterile tool guided by a specula to carefully remove hard ear wax and debris.
I understand it can be tempting to remove ear wax buildup yourself. However, prodding and probing with cotton buds or similar tools can push the wax deeper into the ear canal resulting in worsened symptoms.
As a Ear Wax Removal Practitioner I am trained in using specialised tools and professional methods to safely remove built-up wax.
Advice & Aftercare
-
Before earwax removal, I recommend applying 3 Drops of Earol Olive Oil Spray, 3 Times a day for 3 Days.
Do not place Cotton Wool within the Ears, as this will soak up the Earol.
If you wear Hearing Aids apply Earol Olive Oil Spray, to both ears at night after hearing aids have been removed.
Patients who prefer to wear Hearing Aids Overnight, please remove hearing aids from one ear at a time, on alternate nights. In this case, use Earol Olive Oil Spray for 7 Days.
-
Symptoms of excessive earwax build-up often include:
Dizziness / Vertigo
Impaired hearing
Tinnitus
Discomfort / Itching / Pain
Discharge
A feeling of pressure or blocked ears
-
Ears that are blocked with wax for weeks or months, pressure can build behind the blockage causing a sensation of having cotton wool in the ears or blocked ears.
It’s not uncommon to experience this sensation for a few days following earwax removal, especially if warm water irrigation was used. However, if the feeling persists after a few days, please contact us for further advice.
-
Before you book your next appointment, let us know if you have been experiencing ear pain, or if you think you may possibly have an infection.
We will likely ask you to visit your GP or Pharmacist prior to your consultation, but if that’s not a suitable option, we can still inspect the ear canals to rule out any issues that may prevent or delay your treatment.
-
If you are experiencing itchy or a archy pain, this may be due to the amount of earwax you have in your ear canal. Your earwax removal treatment could resolve this.
-
It’s not uncommon to experience some soreness after a large amount of earwax has been removed. This discomfort is usually due to the sensitivity of the ear canals. The soreness typically lasts for just a day or two and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
If the pain continues, or is moderate to severe we sugguest a GP appointment to rule out an infection.
-
After warm water Irrigation to clear your earwax, it is important to keep your ear canals dry to reduce the risk of infection from waterborne bacteria.
Wear Ear Plugs while Showering and Hair Washing for 3 Days. No submerging ears underwater in the bath or swimming for 7 Days.
Hearing aids are not put back into ears for at least 3 Hour or until the ears are dry.
The irrigation process can slightly dry the canals and strip the area of some of the natural oils secreted from inside the ear. The natural oils should return to normal levels after a few days with no other aftercare needed.
-
After Microsuction there is no need to keep ears dry, as the natural oil levels have not been affected. Therefore, no further precautions or aftercare is needed.
